Sunday 12th July 2020 [Belated Match Report]

Windsor (238-6) beat Binfield (202-5) by 36 runs.

It was a long, long wait to get the 2020 season underway, but with the ECB finally giving the green light, a friendly at picturesque Binfield CC was a nice place to start.

New skipper Mark Lines won the toss on batted on a flat looking pitch and openers Chris Dixon and Rob Noble were in positive frame of mind, and added 64 in good time before Dixon, who had played some crisp drives and pulls, cut one uppishly to cover to be dismissed for 38. Sam Jordan showed good intent with some splendid straight drives , before having his leg stump knocked back by the impressive young Binfield seamer Atkins for 36. Windsor 130-2.

Meanwhile, opener Rob Noble had moved serenely to his half century, and in scene reminiscent of Fenners in April, was called in retired by skipper Lines.

Vishal Nair (16) and Jag Bhabra (22) both continued the good work, before Lines’ brutal unbeaten 50 off 27 balls sent Windsor north of 200, to set up a challenging 238-6 off their allotted 40 overs.

In reply Windsor seamers Charlie Jackson and Kai Ziemkendorf both bowled well at lively pace without reward, but Binfield’s Humphries and Williams batted well – the former taking a painful blow on the arm off Ziemkendorf.

Binfield were always behind the rate, and 2 wickets from the spin of Bhabra, plus one each from George Smith, Omar Mubarek and the returning Ziemkendorf, saw the hosts finish on 202-5 when time was called. M.Humphries (50) and Morgan (58) used their time at the crease productively, though a target of 239 was never really within their sights – Windsor winning by 36 runs.

A good opening game against good hosts
